description
This villa provides excellent value for larger groups with 7 rooms that can sleep 14 comfortably.

We are situated in one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. The plantation-style villa is nestled in the lush mountains of Prospect, on Tobago's sheltered leeward coast, caressed by cool breezes and serenaded by tropical birds. It is set in two acres of beautiful gardens, with fruit and shade trees and a profusion of brilliant bougainvillea.

Absolutely secluded, it has magnificent views of the Caribbean Sea and the Arnos Vale Hills. There is a very large tiled swimming pool (saline not chlorine) - 22 metres long - that may well keep you away from the ocean on lazy days.

Our villa was designed by Brian Lewis, one of the islands leading architects. The villa evokes a bygone era of grandeur, and yet provides all the amenities of modern living. It has 7 bedrooms (one of which is in a separate cottage) comfortably sleeping 17 people and six bathrooms. Each bedroom has wonderful, sweeping views of the ocean and hills.

The villa is built to make maximum use of the breezes with the added benefit of keeping insects at bay and the temperature cooler. In the evenings, you can first watch the sunset and then later, the fireflies.

This is a paradise for the keen birdwatcher. It has its own bird sanctuary and there is a profusion of humming birds and other tropical birds. It also has its own orchard and vegetable garden, allowing guests to enjoy fresh grown local fruit and vegetables.

The beauty of the environment, the generous proportions of rooms and verandas are designed for complete relaxation, its large living and dining areas and its two study areas, for times when privacy and solitude are needed. There is a TV, full office facilities and a state of the art music system.

Though the secluded villa is five minutes' drive from the ocean, the famous Mt. Irvine Golf Course and fine restaurants, are a mere 15 minutes from the capital, Scarborough. Other activities such as horse riding, snorkelling or scuba diving are also within easy access. Our villa combines the best of both worlds: immediate access to entertainment and activity with total relaxation.
special things to do and see here
Tobago is the original Robinson Crusoe island. It has the oldest rainforest in the world and beautiful deserted beaches. Englishman's Bay is one of the most famous which was where Swiss Family Robinson was filmed. There are also giant leatherback turtles that lay there eggs on the beaches and some fantastic scuba diving amongst some old ship wrecks. Many species of fish are present in Tobago's warm waters.

Activities include: Bird watching · Turtle watching· Rainforest hikes (world's oldest protected rain forest reserve)· Waterfall hikes (several)· Scuba diving (magnificent coral reef and very good diving school)· Snorkelling (within easy reach)· Sailing (catamarans )· Golf (2 courses)· Horseback riding ( in the bush or along the beach - NB you can swim on horseback)· Tennis (very good coach)· Swimming (22m pool and beaches nearby)

how this holiday makes a difference
Benefitting the local economy
The villa has been given a quality award by Tidco the official Tobagonian Tourist Organisation - this award is only given to properties that actively support the Tobagonian economy. The villa provides full time employment to a local couple who live on the opposite side of the hill. Additional services are mostly provided by resident Tobagonians, which helps support the local economy, and we promote other locally run tourism enterprises to tourists. Tobago is largely dependent on tourism and is viewed as the poor second cousin to Trinidad, its larger and more affluent neighbour.

The orchard and vegetable garden are key parts of the villa as meals and drinks are made (though not exclusively) using the local produce and guests are invited to enjoy the local fruit. When the villa is unoccupied the produce is distributed to local families. These families in turn bring their produce to the villa when there are guests.

Minimising negative environmental impacts
The villa has been built in keeping with the original plantation style and with ceiling fans, the mosquito nets and large verandas the aim is to evoke a bygone era - they also minimise power consumption and use of insecticides. All materials used to build the villa came from either Trinidad or Tobago.

The villa is next to a virgin palm forest and natural bird sanctuary. There are therefore lots of hummingbirds, wood peckers, mot mots, cocorricos (Tobago's national bird) and other unusual bird species for the birdwatcher. In the future we plan to create a mini bird reserve within the grounds of the Villa. Tobago remains relatively undiscovered compared to other Caribbean Islands. We purposely built our villa in the hills as inevitably the coastline is beginning to get built up.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
