  • travellers' tales
The hotel is in a lovely forested area, which is very handy for lots of places in Andalucia. The hotel is very relaxed and friendly. The most exciting part was seeing clouds of buzzards, vultures and eagles rising up over the plains on the thermals on their migration route over the Straits of Gibraltar.  (more)

how this holiday makes a difference
Information and maps of the Costa de la Luz are available from the hotel for visitors about the Natural Park, plants and animals. People are employed from the local communities according to Spanish social security requirements. Access has been facilitated for handicapped people, to the bar and the restaurant.

We used original, authentically and historical construction for the setting of a small size business with minimal intervention on the original structure to adapt the building to its new use. We've created of a planted area with about 200 trees in the 10 000 meters around the building. There is minimal intervention on the original access; without using concrete our asphalt.

All the walls of the original construction of the hotel have a width of 60cm. We have used lime and sand for the external surface repairing with mineral painting to preserve the porosity for humidity regulation process. In the same way we have use concrete made of clay balls when it was necessary to cover a terrace; in this case we get more insolating power of the construction itself.

We used other bio-construction principles as porch to get shade in the entry of the room and for the terraces. No A.C. necessary due to the quality of the original construction. There is minimal use of environmental aggressive products as P.V.C. (only in plumbing), no polyurethane or chemical insolating products.

Hacienda terrace in AndaluciaAll the wood comes from recycling process of XVIII century constructions, especially from houses of Cadiz in restoring process. Especially all the doors and beams where funded in such a way. We used recycled clay bricks and tiles too fit as much as possible the original aspect.

Water economy systems are fitted in all bathrooms and energy saving bulbs are used in 99% of cases. We separate our organic and non organic waste and organic waste is recycled by the neighbour's 'black pigs'.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
