description
We welcome you for a night or for longer in our 600-year-old family home, and its large and beautiful organic garden. Enjoy the freedom of walking in the grassland, traditional orchards and ancient woodland of this 220-acre farm - and explore further afield.

This quiet place close to the Malvern Hills is surrounded by good eating-places, gardens, music, theatre and the arts, and the glories of the Herefordshire landscape. You can relax in the big farmhouse kitchen and reception rooms, and enjoy the books, local information, internet access, and good conversation (if required!) which abound here. In the garden the North Border is home to the late Helen Ballard’s hellebores, in flower from January to April; new initiatives in the garden currently include a ‘wet-system’ with indigenous planting.

The whole farm is managed sustainibly for the benefit of wildlife and landscape and to encourage the understanding of our relationship - physical, spiritual and creative - with the natural world. Here you can dream, study, clarify your essence, perhaps discover more about yourself, and make connections with the land and the people. Many walks can be taken on the farm (with plenty of seats along the way) or further afield on the Malverns, or on the Welsh Borders.
travellers' tales
We were only on holiday for four days so it would be an exaggeration to rate this as a holiday of a life-time however the accommodation is definitely **** and I have already recommended it to family and friends.  (more)
rooms, food and facilities
There are three very comfortable double bedrooms, two with private bath/shower, and one 'ensuite'. They are all upstairs on the first floor. There is ample central heating and log-fires.

We have a very large dining kitchen and reception areas for guests with plenty of books, periodicals, games and also internet access.

The extensive buffet breakfast includes local and organic food wherever possible. Special requirements can be catered for if agreed in advance.

The kitchen is always available for making beverages and cold drinks and there are also trays for this purpose in all the bedrooms.

There is no smoking at this property, and no television - to preserve the peace of this place for your enjoyment. All rooms have radios.

There is a 2 acre garden and 220 acres of farmland, orchard, pasture and woodland with numerous walks. Bikes and helmets are available.
how to find us
Br road: Only 25 minutes from M5 or M50.

By air: There are rail links to Birmingham and Heathrow airports.
how this holiday makes a difference
We use organic (approximately 80%) and/or local food, Fair trade tea/coffee and other supplies, and ecological cleaning materials and washing products. In fact we do all our own laundry using minimal washing liquid (using wash balls) and dry washing out of doors or over the aga!

Energy saving measures include low energy lightbulbs (about 70%), capped outdoor lights and wind-up torches as emergency lighting. We also recycle glass, paper, foil, garden waste, clothing and textiles.

We use a W.E.T system for our sewage (entirely biological through action of plant growth and soil microbes),  garden organically and promote wildlife in our garden. We farm sustainably and are committed to benefiting the environment through our involvement in several environmental schemes. We educate the public by holding farm walks and garden open days. Our local workforce (cleaner and gardeners) is paid well above minimum wage.

For our guests, we provide practical suggestions & files of information about green issues. We provide bicycles and give lifts to/from the train station. Here we promote peace and quiet as a desirable way to enjoy the countryside as well as to benefit our guests.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
