travellers' tales
Relaxing on the veranda above the blue, blue water under the blue, blue sky with the sun layering on the light (but not the heat - no humidity) and looking out over the unspoilt bay as the very friendly staff brought beer / water / towels while we read and sun-bathed on our honeymoon (more)
how this holiday makes a difference
Paradise Bay, where we are located was full of fish farms for more than 10 years. The fish farms polluted the water, harmed the underwater sea life and the fishermen also polluted the natural environment. We struggled with them and the government who let them settle down in this inlet and 2 years ago we were able to save Paradise Bay. Today there are no fish farms and nature has just started to recover. Our Bodrum hotel has a water purification system. The water which is recycled is used in watering the garden. Our water supply is an artesian well, we don’t use city water. We use solar energy to produce hot water for our property. We planted lots of plants and trees in out property to be in harmony with the nature. Today, after more than 10 years, most of our property is not recognizable as it is all covered with plants. On our excursions, we also introduce the fauna of our environs, and also teach our guests how to cook with the local herbs and vegetables.(culinary). All of our excursions are combined with culture tours, introducing the history and the local specialties of each village in the Bodrum Peninsula. On our walking tours, the specialities of habitat is explained. We don’t leave any garbage behind us, we always leave the places like untouched. We make garbage composting in our property. We separate organic stuff and bury it in the ground to have a richer earth. We put brochures in our rooms about how to reduce the damage we do to our environment. We use electric energy savers as our key holders of the rooms . On our excursions, we also hire local people as guides, who know the area well. They introduce the environment and their local customs, which makes our guests examine these places with a different perspective. We believe that different cultures and customs make our world a richer place. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
