description
This Algarve family accommodation comprises a large villa & two cottages (sleeping 2 -16 people), suitable for both small & large groups.
The accommodation is just ten minutes drive from the bustling market town of Silves, tucked away in a traditional hamlet – the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday with family or friends. The villa and cottages have use of an eco-friendly, chlorine-free swimming pool, private and shared terraces, and wonderful landscaped gardens.
Only 50 mins from Faro airport and situated between two market towns, this is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding unspoilt countryside. Also within easy reach lie some of the finest beaches in the Algarve, boasting long stretches of golden sand and dramatic rocky coves.
The main villa is a traditional Portuguese house that has been modernized to create an open-plan, loft style living space. Double-height ceilings, picture windows and French doors combine to make the villa a dramatic, light filled space. The house is tastefully and comfortably furnished, with versatile living space and numerous areas to relax, both inside and out for a perfect family accommodation.
The accommodation also has a two bedroom cottage with double and twin rooms sleeping 4, and a delightful one bedroom cottage sleeping 2. Both cottages have terracotta floors, eucalyptus beams and wood burning stoves. Each property has its own private garden, and shared use of a salt water swimming pool with paddling pool attached – ideal family accommodation for those with babies and smaller children.
Horse riding: For horse trekking, facilities at the local 'Quinta Ventura' offer riders a chance to trek through some of the most beautiful countryside in the Algarve.
Beaches: With long sandy beaches and picturesque rocky coves only 30 minutes drive away it is easy to enjoy the beautiful coastline of the Algarve with family or friends.
Architecture & markets: The moorish history of the area, and in particular Silves, is evident in the surrounding architecture and alongside its 13th century bridge can be found a riverfront market. The accommodation is within a ten minute drive of two bustling market towns.
Food and farming: Visitors are more than welcome to walk around the farm and sample the seasonal organically grown fruits (including citrus, plums, apricots, peaches, guavas and figs), and there are many lovely walks that can incorporate a traditional Portuguese lunch in one of the friendly local village restaurants. The neighbouring town of Silves offers a wide range of restaurants; fresh fish and seafood are a local speciality.
Birdwatching: This area is also good for birdwatching.

how to find us
We are situated 50 minutes drive west of Faro airport. Car hire is considered essential as transport links to the area are very infrequent. how this holiday makes a difference
Those who venture away from the popular tourist spots of and head inland, even by just a few kilometres, will be rewarded with an insight into a traditional lifestyle that many tourists will never witness in the resorts and coastal areas of the Algarve. Many of the people living in these rural areas are the most humble and dignified people you would ever wish to meet, uncorrupted by the social distortions wrought by the tourist industry on the coast. By booking a holiday at our Algarve family accommodation we hope that you can play a part in preserving this rural environment, by sustaining employment and encouraging regeneration in the rural Algarve. Help us to support and preserve these rural communities by practising 'Responsible Tourism'. Depopulation has been a feature of the rural Algarve for decades. By encouraging visitors inland, away from the overdeveloped stretches of the Algarve coastline, we hope we can play a part in assisting the local economy, and spread the word about this wonderful region. Where possible everything for the farm is bought locally and we encourage our guests to shop locally and visit local family-run businesses such as village restaurants, bars & shops. We also provide a guide to help guests find ceramics, artwork & natural cosmetics made by local artisans in the hope that they will purchase these locally produced items as souvenirs or gifts. We would never dictate to our guests where they should or should not visit, but rather try to draw their attention to smaller, less commercial projects that we feel benefit the local area and community, such as a conservation project protecting critically endangered species. Few tourists to the Algarve manage to experience 'festas'. We help guests to locate both traditional & modern festivals taking place across the Algarve. We've lots of lovely salvaged buiding materials and used local stone to build dry stone retaining walls. We restored the old houses that were already on the land, rather than pull them down to build new. Our houses are fitted with solar panels which generate enough hot water for bathing & washing-up throughout our rental season. Our swimming pool is fitted with a salt water filtration system which removes the need for chlorine. Water is provided from a bore hole and 'brown' water is collected in a filtration tank and reused for garden irrigation. We have 5 hectares of conservation grade farmland which we farm organically. We produce tropical fruit, olives and grapes for wine. Much of this produce is traded with a neighbouring farmer in exchange for his produce. To our knowledge we are the only family accommodation in the Algarve to actively welcome families who have children with learning difficulties, autism & behavioural problems. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
