description
The villa is a peaceful, 3 bedroom house (sleeps 5-7) situated immediately by the Mediterranean sea. The property is part of a housing development of about 30 other similar properties. These are predominantly owned by Turks who live in Istanbul and Ankara and use their place as a holiday home. I have found that only a handful are ever occupied at one time and for this reason you hardly ever see anyone around. There are a few other houses popping up in the vicinity but otherwise the coastline remains pristine, untouched and a joy to see.

The main advantage of the villa is undoubtedly its exceptional location by an exceptional stretch of coastline. The development has its own private swimming spot. Whenever you feel like swimming, you only have to walk 50 metres and you will find yourself in the open expanse of the Mediterranean sea. Snorkelling, fishing and diving is excellent here (equipment provided at the villa).

The villa is ideal for those looking for maximum peace and quiet. You will see no crowds during your stay and you will barely see any cars. Waking up every morning, you will hear birds singing and the gentle sound of the waves. Amble down to the ‘rock’ and have a dip in the sea. Have a barbecue on the terrace and watch the sun go down in the distance.

Meet Mehmet, the friendly caretaker, who will bring fresh bread and your English language newspaper to your doorstep every morning. If you want to relax and unwind, then this villa is for you.
special things to do and see here
A day on the boat with Adnan: boat-owner and friend, Adnan, takes you on a full day trip of sightseeing and swimming. See the “sunken city’, a Roman town destroyed by an earthquake leaving parts submerged and visible beneath the sea. Plenty of swimming and the whole boat to yourselves. A fantastic day out.

A Gulet yacht cruise: opt to do a gulet cruise. Designed so that you start straight from your flight and end at the villa! 4 days of pure bliss: swimming, all meals prepared for you and fantastic historical sites to visit.

Home-made and typical dinner prepared by Mehmet and Huriye: caretaker and wife provide this service upon request of guests. Guests pay them for the service.

Walking: the Lycian Way is one of the top ten best walks in the world. In full, it is about 500km long and takes two months to complete. Thankfully, it runs straight through Demre, so you might be tempted to take a few days or a week to walk a part of it.

Cycling: two mountain bikes are provided free of charge to use and explore the area.

    how to find us
You will need to book your flight to Antalya airport in Turkey. Flights are available from many UK airports. Expect the drive from Antalya airport to the villa to take 2-2 ½hrs. Airport transfers and/or car hire can be booked for you upon request.
  • how this holiday makes a difference
The villa is the product of a single-minded desire to find a property in a spectacular and peaceful location, but still far from mass-tourism. A place where you won’t meet other tourists, where you’ll immediately feel part of the local culture and environment and, simply put, where you can have a holiday you can call your own.

Locals benefit greatly from bookings. Adnan runs a full day boat trip to see the wonders in the vicinity such as the sunken city. Fezay owns two gulet yachts should guests want to do a cruise. Suleyman does the airport transfers and the caretaker, Mehmet, and his family benefit from the cleaning and organisation involved in the changeovers. These are not just suppliers. They are people I have got to know over the years and have become friends. I know they will treat you in the same way.

We are also very pleased to donate £10 from every booking towards the Ulupinar conservation group that helps to preserve one of the few remaining nesting sites for sea turtles in the Mediterranean. The site, at Cirali beach, is only an hour away from the villa.

The town of Demre (where the villa is located) makes its living largely from agriculture, and all our furniture and building materials are bought locally. Most food is therefore locally sourced, not forgetting absolutely delicious. There is also a weekly market where farmers bring in their produce from the surrounding area. Guests are encouraged to shop at the local markets for food, fruit and veg. Mehmet, the caretaker, and his wife can also prepare homemade and typical meals of the area upon request.

Efforts have been made to make the villa as eco-friendly as possible. Solar energy has now been installed, providing hot water to the whole house. Air conditioning is installed in the bedrooms only while fans are available for the lounge or as an alternative. The villa will completely change over to energy saving light bulbs in 2008. Mehmet is happy to take back your glass bottles back to the shop for recycling. Food waste can also be given to Mehmet to feed his goats and dog.

Fruit trees predominate in the small garden which means that no pesticides or chemical products are used. All in all, the villa will provide a truly relaxing, authentic holiday while having a minimal impact on the environment and its surroundings.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
