description
Three one-bedroom detached villas, with private swimming pools which are situated just 20 minutes south of Rethymnon in an idyllic and peaceful setting on a hilltop rising between two gorges. There are westerly views of the White Mountains, often tipped with snow even in May, the dramatic Ida Massif to the east, and of rolling countryside towards Rethymnon.
The only sounds here are goat bells and cicadas in the wild broom and olives. Yet although the setting is blissfully rural, the friendly owners, Dimitris and Siny, have built and equipped these houses to the highest standards. Each property is private, and has its own swimming pool and barbecue area.
The nearest village to the villas is Prasses, a quintessentially Cretan hamlet just two minutes away, with a couple of simple kafenions. Local tavernas, a wider range of shops and a bakery are reached in a ten minute drive. Belvedere is a perfect base from which to explore central and southern Crete – the south coast can be reached in an hour – or just to enjoy a relaxing holiday by the pool.
Please note: Based on return flights from the UK - supplements / reductions may be applicable depending on flight & class availability at time of booking.

This is a family run business and has been built by the owners using local materials and contractors. The furniture has been made in Crete by local craftsmen using traditional techniques. The owners promote local culture and often cook an example of a Greek speciality for the guests, made with products from their garden or local fresh products.
We promote the small tavernas in conjunction with the owners as well as places of interest and businesses in the surrounding rural areas to ensure that local people receive maximum economic benefit. We manage the recycling of glass and paper by collecting it from the villas to be recycled at a central location. The villas have solar heated hot water with a backup system. As a company we aim to encourage local economic growth and to work in harmony with local communities and to respect their culture, traditions and environments. All of our owners (bar one) and suppliers used are local. We prefer to employ the services of independent local business as suppliers in each of their destinations. We work with local car hire firms for all our car rentals, boat hire firms for boat rental and we utilize the services of local village shops and mini markets to compile our welcome hampers. We also encourage our guests to use the services of local restaurants and shops, archeological sites/excursions - always booking through locals rather than large multi national companies. In addition to this we encourage our guests to visit local attractions and beaches within the area they are staying, as opposed to suggesting they go further afield. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
