description
The sea, the sun, simplicity: the essential spirit of Greece that first attracted many travellers. These four rooms over a traditional whitewashed taverna facing across the Libyan Sea are what Greece has really always been about. Add meals cooked with home-grown ingredients and freshly caught fish plus meat from local markets, Cretan wine straight from the vat and the twenty-first century slips away.
Your first view of Agia Fotia, before you arrive to a friendly welcome from the owners Stavros and Vikki, is a tiny white building tucked into the cliff, wooden duckboards across the pebble beach and a gaggle of curious geese peering at you through the fence of their waterside enclosure. In the morning you can gaze over a seascape of blues and greens before breakfasting at a wooden table set within feet the shore.
The tiny 200 year old chapel of Ag Fotia lies nearby and several almost deserted beaches, places of driftwood and softly coloured pebbles, are only a few minutes’ drive away. The south coast has many long, sandy beaches, some Minoan remains and a dramatically situated old Monastery at Preveli. Valleys of purple thyme, Venetian bridges, the mouth of the Kourtaliotiko Gorge and the classical sites at Gortys and Phaestos and are all wonderful places to explore.
Please note: Based on return flights from the UK - supplements / reductions may be applicable depending on flight & class availability at time of booking.

All meals cooked with home-grown organic ingredients and freshly caught fish plus meat from local markets, Cretan wine straight from the vat. This is a family run business in a small local community and tourism income is very important to local people. The furniture in the taverna was produced by local craftsmen. Fish, freshly caught by owner, and much of the owner’s home grown produce is used or produce from the local area. Information pack and our representatives promote other local shops, tavernas and local places of interest, especially in the smaller rural communities.
As a company we aim to encourage local economic growth and to work in harmony with local communities and to respect their culture, traditions and environments. All of our owners (bar one) and suppliers used are local. We prefer to employ the services of independent local business as suppliers in each of their destinations. We work with local car hire firms for all our car rentals, boat hire firms for boat rental and we utilize the services of local village shops and mini markets to compile our welcome hampers. We also encourage our guests to use the services of local restaurants and shops, archeological sites/excursions - always booking through locals rather than large multi national companies. In addition to this we encourage our guests to visit local attractions and beaches within the area they are staying, as opposed to suggesting they go further afield. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
