Jungle accommodation in the Amazon, Peru
Have you ever seen fresh-water-pink-dolphins and hundreds of piranhas, listened to the deafening sound of silence in the Peruvian rainforest by night or ever seen a green sunset over millions of giant trees? If not, what are you waiting for?

Long treks, giant lily pads, pure air, three toed sloths, monkeys, birds and armadillos are waiting for you. 80 miles from the nearest city guarantee you the observation of animals in their own habitat without tourist shows. The Amazon Rainforest has more species of birds, animals and fish than anywhere else in the world. Take the time to see the beautiful and unspoiled world of the Jungle.

The lodge can receive up to 50 people in 17 bungalows of two, three, four or six beds. They have their private bathroom with modern tiles, comfortable big beds and a walk-in-closet. The illumination is made by the use of kerosene lamps. Each bungalow is hermetically protected by a mosquito net and has a terrace with its own hammock facing the river, where it is possible to watch Dolphins as well as fish in the river's flood times. Guests can be pleased by colorful sunsets and by the deafening silence of the rainforest at night.

Family friendly: The jungle of the Amazon River is a place that will arouse, without doubt, the desire to learn and analyze in children. It is the perfect place to travel with them, as the parents enjoy as much as children. The lodge has adequate facilities to accommodate children and parents, and especially for the children to learn about nature, while having fun, away from the television and electronic games. The bungalows are very large, with enough space for the children sleep with their parents, if they prefer. Or there are cabins, if they prefer. Bathrooms are spacious and have two ovalines for convenience (from August 2008).

We have a private child-friendly guide who can meet the needs and questions of the children whilst keeping the adventure for the adults. In our select staff we also have women guides, if you prefer. The tours are flexible yet if the children prefer swimming with pink dolphins every day, then that is ok. We have life jackets for children.

As for the food, if the children prefer special meals we will try to look for it in Iquitos. In addition and at no additional cost we will provide juices and cereals, sketch book and colouring materials.

how to find our Jungle accommodation in the Amazon, Peru
You have to come to Lima, capital of Peru, and then catch a flight to Iquitos. There are six daily flights Lima-Iquitos in modern Boeings. Once the passengers are in Iquitos, they will be picked up from the airport and taken to the port. All ground and fluvial transportation are included. The journey from the airport to the port is made using an air-conditioned mini-bus and from the port to the lodge by a speed-boat (the trip takes three hours from Iquitos to the lodge). The excursions in the lodge are made by canoe, small boats or by foot.
how this holiday makes a difference
The lodge was built with the help of San Juan village. They are experts in making bungalows with straw and fallen logs. We cut the trees we needed to construct the bungalows. All the staff, including the owners, are all Peruvians. Guides were born and raised around the jungle, having enough knowledge to be doctors applying natural medicine whenever it is needed. Guests will find they have the knowledge of an expert biologist when answering the most strange and researched questions.

Our excursions include a visit to San Juan village to learn how they live and to make a cultural interchange. Now, after eight years being our partners and neighbours, San Juan villagers have no necessity to hunt. They are working in ecotourism and changing their minds about the freedom of the animals. They have the opportunity to learn about cultures and now they feel more proud of being villagers of the last lung in the planet: The Amazon Rainforest.

We take guests on excursions very deep in the jungle to observe untouched scenery and animals that are living in their own habitat. We "teach" our guests that it is possible to see animals in the trees, avoiding visits to zoos or seeing wild animals as pets or living in captivity. Sometimes passengers push our guides to take sloths down from the trees, to hunt animals for eating, etc. Here we take advantage of this situation and try to revert their minds.

One of our priorities is to conserve the environment of the majestic Amazon River as we have found it, finding the right usage of the resources without destroying the ones that can not be restored. We use plants instead of medicines (only when somebody has something really delicate, do we use medicines). The water in the bathrooms are taken from the river and when the basin flushes it goes to sceptic wells which we clean and maintain, we use kerosen lamps to illuminate the area. Fortunately solar power items are starting to be sold in Peru. We eat fish from the river and also plant flora that is from the region.

To minimize our impact in this primary rainforest, we recycle everything that we can at our jungle accommodation in the Amazon, Peru. Organic food that is left is put in holes, which we then compost, we make some organic gardening, and use biodegradable detergents. The non renewable garbage is taken back to Iquitos in our boats. We do not kill local animals for eating or for fun. Entering to the Yanayacu River, we slow down the speed boat to avoid disturbing the animals. Our staff know the importance of having an ecological mind, so they are also teaching locals and clients. There is a small school in San Juan, there our guides give ecologic lessons. Also, we send biologists to give speeches to them.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
