the amazing things you'll be doing
Discover one of Spain’s most pictureque yet unknown rural regions.

A traditional village cottage fully restored to offer comfortable accommodation in quiet and relaxing surroundings. Fully reconstructed and restored during late 2003 from an old ruined cottage, Casa Ametlet (Almond Tree Cottage) now offers the following self catering accommodation for up to 5 people over 4 floors.

We are located in the small traditional village of Quatretondeta, where time has stood still, in Valencia, in the north west of the Alicante province. The Valencia region is largely undiscovered due to the overwhelming predominance of the coastal tourism on the Costa Blanca and the reputation that it brings with it.

However, the area has much to offer, from walking & climbing to discovering the local history, participating in local fiestas, or just admiring the amazing scenery.
special things to do and see here
Walking near Valencia self catering accommodationWalking and climbing: The classic limestone mountains here, although modest in height (up to 1558m), provide a wonderfully varied terrain for hikers/walkers. Also located in this area are some classic rock climbing venues which are quickly gaining a reputation amongst the rock climbing fraternity throughout the world. There is an impressive variety of scenery to admire along the way; rugged peaks to broad terraced valleys. First time visitors to the region often express surprise at the lack of other walkers, so the feeling of wilderness still prevails today although we are never very far from 'civilisation'.

Tradition and culture: Traditional villages and historic towns are dotted throughout the region. The whole area reflects its Moorish history, eight centuries of Arab occupation: old mule tracks, abandoned villages and ruined castles, as well as the curious neveras; ancient ice houses up to 30m deep where snow was stored to last through the summer. Numerous rock painting sites are amongst the many forgotten jewels of the region.

Nature and wildlife: During the spring wild flowers including many rare species and orchids abound. Bird life is plentiful with Golden eagles and other raptors often seen whilst walking and with luck Griffon vultures on their autumn migration. Late April and through June you will be hearing nightingales wherever you go, and if lucky catch sight of the illusive Golden Oriole.

Summer fields near Valencia self catering accommodation Relaxation & festivals: The beauty of the countryside lends itself to relaxation, painting, photography and gentle exploration of the surrounding area and nearby villages. Or during July and August just laze by the village swimming pool with a cold beer close at hand. There are also a number of local fiestas and other events in the area, including Spain's oldest town fair featuring medieval and Moorish markets. Visitors are given a warm welcome, although you'll need a lot of stamina to enjoy the party atmosphere through the night!

Coastal region: And, of course, we are only 1 hour from the Mediterranean coast.

how this holiday makes a difference
Dramatic secery near Valencia self catering accommodationOur Valencia self catering accommodation was reconstructed during 2003/2004 from a totally ruined village cottage. It was rebuilt by local builders using traditional local materials and incorporating a high tech roof giving the maximum insulation. The heating system is a low energy system and all electrical systems have been installed to minimise consumption whilst maximising comfort. Solar panels have now been installed and will provide approx. 95% of the total hot water requirements for the cottage over the year.

Local staff employed by us provide the servicing to this house. The cottage is located in a traditional mountain farming village. As in many parts of Europe farming is being marginalized and visitors to these villages bring a fresh source of livelihood. In keeping with our environmental policy all waste at our Valencia self catering accommodation is recycled.
