tour options:
High Coast Self-Guided Hiking Adventure
This trip can depart any day from mid-Jun to mid-Aug, from US $865 (5 days) ex flights
The High Coast region has been placed on UNESCO's World heritage list and is Sweden's highest coastal area, with mountains plunging down into the sea. The irregular topography of the region, with lakes, inlets and flat hills up to 350 meters above sea level, has been shaped by glacial retreat and new land rising up from the sea. Each day offers varying terrain and beautiful views. Your luggage is transported for you to the next inn and you only carry a day pack with lunch and personal items. Enjoy a swim in a lake or in the ocean along the way and a warm shower in the evening.

Is it for me? This trip offers a moderate to challenging hiking experience in hilly terrain, with some rewarding climbs and panoramic overlooks. Daily hiking distance is approximately 10-15 kilometers. You set your own pace and make as many stops as you wish. You will have route notes and maps, and the High Coast Trail is also well marked.

Dalecarlia Mountains Self-Guided Hiking Adventure
This trip can start any day from 22 Jun to 23 Aug 2008. Packages are also available with a Sunday-Thursday or Thursday-Sunday stay from 24 Aug to 28 Sep 2008, from US $425 - US $793 (3-5 days) ex flights
Discover Sweden’s southernmost mountains in the province of Dalecarlia. This unique hiking experience takes place at Grövelsjön Mountain Station, your base for 3-5 days as you explore this pristine mountain region. The options are endless on this trip, and you decide how you want to plan your days. Enjoy a self-guided hike on one of the many marked trails or spend a lazy day in the sun, reading a book by the lodge. Most days of the week, the mountain station offers guided and educational walks in the surrounding area and you’re welcome to join for a small additional fee and hike to spectacular points and learn about this beautiful mountain range.

Is it for me? This is a self-guided trip. You have the option of exploring the mountains on your own, or join a guided day excursion from the lodge for an additional cost. There are no group departure dates for the trip; instead you choose the dates you’d like to visit. There are a variety of hiking options on this trip, ranging from easy to more difficult. You should be in good hiking condition and enjoy hiking in various terrains. Grövelsjön Mountain Station is great for families as well, and also offers an easy environment for daily hikes with children. Contact us about children’s prices!

Padjelanta Hiking Adventure
Wildlife on Sweden hiking holidays Departs in July & August, from US $2339 (8 days) ex flights
Travel to the north of Sweden, to Lapland and Padjelanta National Park and go hiking through an enchanted landscape of large mountain lakes and flower covered mountain meadows. Padjelanta, which means “the higher land”, is the summer grazing area for the reindeer and the Sámi villages from Jokkmokk. On this elevated plateau to the west of Sarek National Park’s high alpine summits, we encounter extraordinary flora and fauna. With our connections with the local Sámi people you will have a memorable and unique experience in the real Lapland.

Is it for me? This trip offers a challenging hiking experience, in varied terrain, with both climbs and descents. You should be in good physical condition and enjoy hiking in various terrain. You will carry your own backpack during the days. The hikes are between 10-20 kilometers each day, and the group makes many stops for both views and meals.

Journey in the Land of the Midnight Sun
Departs June, from US $1729 (5 days) ex flights
Every summer there are 100 days without night north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden! Here you can see the midnight sun from the middle of June to the end of July. Discover the beauty and splendor of the midnight sun in the mountains around Saltoluokta in Lapland and enjoy the views from the mountain top of Lulep Gierkav with an altitude of 1139 meter or from the great moors of Ultevis. This journey takes you to the Laponia World Heritage Site, where you get to experience 24 hrs of day light, great hiking, and the Sami culture.

Is it for me? This trip offers an easy hiking experience, with short hikes in varied terrain, with both climbs and descents. You stay mostly on designated trails. You should be in good physical condition.
travellers' tales
I enjoyed being with a small group of fun people who were from various international backgrounds. I also loved the beauty and tranquillity of northern Sweden... and the mosquitoes were ferocious! (more)
how this holiday makes a difference
We promote sustainable travels that benefit the local regions we visit, by making the following efforts:
  • Supporting the local economy: Food items are purchased locally to support local grocery stores as opposed to large whole sale agencies. Transportation is arranged through local transportation companies. Accommodations are chosen based on local ownership and especially prioritizing those with an environmental policy in place. All of the guides are long-time residents of the local regions visited.
  • Minimal use of gas-powered vehicles: You utilize your own energy for transportation as much as possible by hiking, biking, kayaking etc, and small vehicles are used only when necessary to transport the group over longer distances.
  • Contributing to local restoration projects: We contribute to local restoration and bio-diversity projects in order to protect and preserve the areas we visit.
  • Small group sizes to minimize impact: Group sizes are kept small in order to adhere to the carrying capacity of the regions visited. Size varies from 2-18 participants
  • Supporting local as well as international eco tourism efforts: As a member of The International Eco Tourism Society, The Swedish Eco Tourism Society and Leave No Trace, we support both local and international efforts to make the travel industry more sustainable and to think "green" rather than mass production.
  • Practicing the principles of Leave No Trace: We are an active member of Leave No Trace - a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and inspiring responsible outdoor recreation through education, research and partnerships. Leave No Trace builds awareness, appreciation and respect for wild lands. We promote the principles of Leave No Trace whenever possible

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
