the amazing things you'll be doing
Two beautiful countries in one action packed week. From the stunning coastline of Croatia to the towering peaks and turquoise blue River Soca of Slovenia, both countries will leave you amazed. Great food, convivial company, superb activities and the warmest of welcomes await you in this wonderful part of Europe.

Accommodation: The first three nights of your holiday are spent at an agrotouristic farmhouse in the village of Klostar. Great home-cooked food and plenty of home made wine get everybody bonding very quickly! In Slovenia we spend four nights at the Hotel Krn situated in the centre of Tolmin, the largest town in the Soca Valley.

The hotel has very comfortable and attractive en-suite bedrooms with twins, doubles, triples and quads all available. We have most of our meals at the hotel which provides a good range of dishes using local produce. There is also a large bar area with a wide range of wines and beers and not forgetting the three huge jars of home-made schnapps - blueberry, apricot and prune. Don’t leave without trying all three!
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Transfers from Trieste, introduction & dinner. We will meet you at Trieste Airport and transfer down the coast to our accommodation in the tiny village of Klostar. After settling in there will be an introductory dinner.
Day 2:Istrian mini-triathlon. A fantastic introduction to Istria as we go trekking in the hills, cycling through the vineyards and sea kayaking along the coast. Not bad for starters! Picnic lunch.
Day 3:Lazy boat day. You can’t visit Croatia without exploring the coastline. Today’s boat trip is about unwinding but there will be opportunites to kayak, fish, swim and snorkle on our way to Porec. Fish lunch on board the boat.
Day 4:Adrenaline Park. We bid farewell to Croatia and arrive in time for lunch at our Slovenian hotel. This afternoon, we work our way through the local high ropes course encountering a number of mental and physical challenges.
Day 5:Mountain Biking. The route today will vary according to the ability of the group. Regardless, a day of cycling on the undulating back roads and tracks of the Soca Valley will take you past rivers and waterfalls and up and down alpine valleys. It’s fabulous cycling country, Picnic lunch included.
Day 6:White Water Rafting. Straight into the action this morning with the perfect introduction to the River Soca. There’s fun and games between rafts before the more serious rafting begins further downstream. It’s also a great way to get acquainted with others on the trip. Lunch at the hotel and optional afternnoon hydrospeeding.
Day 7:Canyoning & night canoeing. Following lunch we head for the Trebusa Canyon where we have sole access rights. After a 20 minute uphill walk to our start point we descend the canyon via a series of slides, jumps, ducks and dives culminating in an exhilarating rope-assisted descent of a 27m waterfall. After lunch at the hotel, the afternoon is free to pack and relax before our farewell dinner and the final activity of the week, night canoeing. We follow a gentle 4km stretch of river in inflatable kayaks with only the stars in the Slovenian night sky to light our way.
Day 8:Return transfers to Trieste airport.

how this holiday makes a difference
This holiday has two bases – at Umag in Istria in Northern Croatia and Tolmin in Western Slovenia.

In Istria our local partners are firmly dedicated to promoting the twin concepts of utilising local suppliers and providers and following practices which contribute towards the environmental protection of the area. They actively promote the idea of tourism with minimal pollution and to this end ensure that groups bring back any garbage which may have a detrimental impact on the environment, which is then recycled when and wherever possible.

Dedication to the stimulation of the local economy extends to promoting employment opportunities where possible and this happens in terms of guiding, local restaurants and local accommodation providers. For activities local guides are exclusively used for all land and sea based activities and road transfers are organised locally as well.

In Slovenia we actively encourage the development of the training of local guides who receive their diplomas from the University of Ljubljana. Our presence allows these guides to develop their international language skills through constant interaction with our groups.

Tolmin itself lies on the edge of the Triglav National Park and taking clients there on one activity day we educate them in how tourism can impact on the ecology of the region if not managed carefully. Again only local accommodation providers are used who employ local staff in all disciplines. All food served to clients is locally grown and prepared and we encourage clients to sample local delicacies.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
