the amazing things you'll be doing
Learn how to sail a yacht and have a flotilla experience - all in 1 week!

You arrive in either Porto Heli or Nidri and move onto your yacht - which becomes your 'caravan' for the 1st part of your holiday. Living on the pontoon by the Athos or Nautica Bay Hotels (where you can shower and use the facilities). You will join an 'Introduction to Yachting' course for the first 3 days of your holiday and on the 4th day 'deliver' your yacht (with your instructor) to join the back end of the one week flotilla. The instructor then leaves you alone and you will spend 2 nights away with flotilla before returning to base the night before your departure.

For those a little nervous that 7 nights on yacht maybe a little too much - then there is an option to 'upgrade' to B&B at Athos Hotel for the 4 nights you are there. Plus families can book kids into the kidsclubs at Porto Heli allowing parents to train and all to enjoy a few nights on flotilla at the end of the week.

Our Royal Yachting Associaton Training Centres offer ideal conditions for all to get to grips with big boat handling. Our experienced instructors and well maintained training boats ensure that your learning experience is both rewarding and enjoyable, providing you with the skills necessary for a safe and happy week afloat.

It's not as hard as you might imagine to pick up the skills to navigate a yacht around the Mediterranean coastline. With our tried and tested courses and fantastic yacht trainers, you will be sailing with confidence in no time at all. We offer a variety of courses to suit all ages and abilities.

The Introduction to Yachting course is designed to be fun but informative, equipping complete beginners with the knowledge and skills necessary to skipper their own yacht on the following weeks flotilla. The syllabus we follow is based on the RYA Keelboat Level 2 certificate. After having completed the course, followed by a second week on flotilla, most new sailors will be awarded their RYA Level 2.

The skills needed can be learnt in four days with tuition from our Royal Yachting Association qualified instructors. Whilst covering the necessary manoeuvres you will be hopping from pontoon to quayside to bay to harbour. Occasionally stopping for picnics, taverna lunches or swimming, there will be time to digest all that you are learning at a relaxed but steady pace.

A maximum of five guests will train per yacht with an instructor. At the end of your course you’ll feel happy to skipper your own yacht within a flotilla environment. Your lead crew will be aware of your training and will be on hand to offer their full support during your week afloat.

Please note: we require a minimum of 2 people per booking for these trips.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Arrive and get settle into your yacht.
Day 2-4:Three days spent on our Introduction to yachting course.
Day 5:Sail your yacht with the instructor on the small flotilla to join the main one week flotilla.

how this holiday makes a difference
The very nature of our yachting holidays involves our guests visiting different out-of-the-way places each day, places which enjoy the extra revenue generated by our visits that they might not otherwise expect to benefit from. Shopping for groceries and eating out at the local tavernas in each port of call is an integral part of the social aspect of our holidays.

We recognise that we operate our yachting holidays in pristine marine environments and we understand the importance of conserving them for future generations. All our yachts are supplied with a handbook which contains tips for our guests on how to help conserve the unspoiled locations they love to sail in. All our old oil is siphoned into cans to avoid any possibility of spillage. Where possible, all materials are reused in some way, for example, old yacht ropes become mooring lines for dinghies and old sailcloth is made into laundry bags or car covers, even old uniforms are used for cleaning engines.

Approximately three quarters of our yacht spares are sourced locally. Not only does this benefit the local economy, it cuts down the transport miles and all the associated impacts that go with that aspect of importation. In addition to sourcing standard spares items, we are also working with local suppliers to supply some of our more specific needs such as customised flags and other branded items.

We register all our yachts to fly under the flag of the countries in which we operate. While this can be an expensive process, (albeit benefiting the local economy) it ensures our compliance with local legislation, which in turn helps cement good relations with local authorities, essential for the smooth running and risk management of our operations.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
