the amazing things you'll be doing
The Dominican Republic has long been is a favourite Caribbean destination, but this trip takes you far from the all-inclusive resorts and well off the beaten track to explore some of the most beautiful and unspoiled areas of the island.

Touring with a small group of 4-10 people maximum, you will be learning Spanish whilst experiencing a range of natural attractions and activities. Starting in Sosua, the trip moves to the mountains of Jarabacoa and then to the capital, Santo Domingo.

From there it goes to the sparkling beaches of Las Terrenas on the peninsula of Samana. It is here that learning Spanish and participating in leisure activities can best be combined. The trip will then end at the starting point in Sosua.

Spanish lessons will take place in many different settings, from the terrace of a small beach hotel as well as in the classrooms of our school which are furnished with new multi-media equipment. The accommodation varies in settings too and range from a modest inn in the mountains of Jarabacoa to a 3*** hotel in Sosua. The excursions and activities included in this tour include horseback-riding, hiking, local excursions in the areas being visited, a barbeque party as well as all entrance fees. Additional leisure activities such as windsurfing, river rafting, diving and dancing lessons can be organized on request and will incur additional costs.

Each day will include 4 Spanish language lessons and a cultural visit or activity. The exact timing of activities will depend on whether it is a travelling day or not.
how this holiday makes a difference
When out on tour we encourage learning about the country we are travelling in, the local culture of the people we work with and the areas we pass through. Our guides hold informal talks with groups to inform about and discuss with them all aspects of local life. This helps understanding of the area and appreciation of the people who live there.

By learning Spanish whilst on tour, everyone is able to communicate with local people, even at a basic level. All our language tutors and specialist guides are local people and they are treated and paid fairly. Food is purchased locally and we use food products with as little packaging as possible, and encourage cooking with local products. Whilst in towns we use locally owned hotels wherever possible.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
