day-by-day itinerary
| Day 1: | Arrival. After your arrival in Dubrovnik or Dubrovnik airport you will be transferred to your accommodation. In the evening welcome dinner with other travelers in the group. |
| Day 2: | Island Lokrum - sea kayaking. After breakfast mini bus transfer to the Dubrovnik Old Port where we will meet our guide. Paddle along the city walls to the Island of Lokrum, relax and swim in hidden bays, explore the island Lokrum (botanical garden with subtropical plants, Benedictine monastery from 12th century, small salt lake). Trip length 4h (paddling duration 2h). |
| Day 3: | Island of ipan - cycling. The largest Elaphite Island. There are two settlements: Luka Sipanska and Sudjuradj dating from ancient times. Sipan is an island with rich cultural heritage and rich Mediterranean vegetation (vineyards and olive trees, pine forests). Our tour begins after breakfast, transfer to the port of Dubrovnik, then with a local boat to the Sipan. Cycling tour starts at place Sudjuradj, along inland of the island. After two hours we will reach to settlement Luka Sipanska, there we will have lunch in local tavern and free time on your own before departure to Dubrovnik. Daily trip, cycling duration 2 hours. |
| Day 4: | Free day. Free day on your own, we suggest visiting the medieval town Cavtat close to the city of Dubrovnik. |
| Day 5: | Dubrovnik Old Town - walking tour. After breakfast mini bus transfer to the Old Town, meeting with the guide at the Onofrio's Fountain, in two hours you will be introduced to the most interesting sites in Dubrovnik's Old Town. |
| Day 6: | Island of Mljet, National Park - trekking tour. Our trip starts with bus transfer to the port of Dubrovnik, then boat transfer to place Polace, Mljet is called green island because of the vegetation. It is one of eight Croatian National Parks with amazing beauty of Mediterranean vegetation, clear blue sea, numerous bays, beaches and cliffs, but two salt lakes in the island is the worldwide phenomenon. Our trekking begins at village Polace behind ancient remains (Roman palace from 2nd century) and continue through National Park and around two salt lakes. This is daily trip, trekking duration is 3 hours. Possible swimming, lunch is provided in local tavern. Return to village Polace and transfer by boat to Dubrovnik. |
| Day 7: | Free day. Group spends evening with dinner in local tavern. |
| Day 8: | Departure day. Transfer to the airport and departure. |
how this holiday makes a difference
|
Our groups are small, up to 16 people, and therefore we do not disturb local communities or the environment. During our tours we mostly visit small villages and places (island Lokrum, Island Sipan, territory of national park Mljet), and we always try to have minimum negative effects to the environment. We use recycled paper. We recycle all our waste paper (brochures, etc). Our correspondence and promotion is carried out via the internet and email, minimizing the amount of paper used for our activities.
We support different local ecological associations and our staff was directly involved in afforestation (planting of pine trees in Dubrovnik area after fire disaster in summer 2007). Besides this afforestation during autumn 2008 and a couple of seasons before, we directly support and we are involved in the ecological action of cleaning the sea. This underwater cleaning is ecological action which is support by local diving centers and fisherman's associations. The planting trees and underwater cleaning are ecological actions which we have supported for many years; moreover I am one of founders of this ecological association. We encourage travellers to be more responsible with water waste, and we inform all our travellers before their tour about area, especially travelers on tours when they are in protected areas, sea or countryside. We inform travellers about local cultures and habits, we inform our travellers that leaving litter in the sea or beach could have very negative consequences to the fish, sea ecosystem and finally themselves. We inform travellers to be very careful with fire and to avoid open fire during summer, if they would like to go on fishing we suggest them to go with some local fishermen, if they go scuba diving we inform them about diving clubs which will take them to underwater archaeological sights which are protected and conserved. During their diving or snorkelling it is not allowed to take away anything from the sea except feeling good. As the transportation is very important in tourism, we support the idea of green transport; cleaner vehicle options which helps area to stay cleaner. We encourage our clients to use public transport and bikes especially when they are on the Islands. We encourage our clients to choose kayaking rather then boat excursions, walking rather than coaching tours and sailing rather then speed boats etc. All our guides are local and we train our staff to be more responsible for the local environment and ecology. We buy local products as the souvenirs for our partners and we encourage our guests to buy local products. We use local services as much as we can. For restaurants we always choose restaurants with character (mostly family run restaurants with local specialities). On all our tours we use local produce and provide local-style meals, and we encourage our guests to try local dishes and delicacies. We use a lot of locally owned accommodation and this provides direct income for local house owners. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
